1 Peter 1:18-19 reads: “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (NKJV)
During this season, I also was meditating on another time long ago when God saved His people by the blood of a lamb. In the Book of Exodus, the Lord spoke to Moses to tell the children of Israel to select a lamb from their flocks – one per household – and sacrifice it. “Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. “ Exodus 12:5 (NKJV)
Exodus 12:22-23 tells us that “you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.” (NKJV)
This was a foreshadowing of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for us. All of the first born of the children of Israel were spared when the blood of the lamb was applied to the doorposts. As the blood of a lamb saved in Moses day; the Blood of the Lamb saves us today. We who believe in Jesus Christ and in His shed blood will be saved from eternal death. We are saved by the Blood of the Lamb.
