Society has developed the mentality of running away from problems. But the Christians mentality should be to face things head on with God in the forefront. I am sure we all have had thoughts of “If I could just leave and start over somewhere else” at one point or another. But the only place God wants us to run to is to Him.
King David knew that feeling. He said in Psalm 55:4-6 “My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.” (NIV)
We have a predisposition of looking for the easy way out during times of trouble. However, running away from it will not do it any good. Quite the opposite, it can make things worse and we will only have to face it later. Something that will never be dealt with will also never go away. Just because you do not look at a problem, does not mean it is not there.
How can we face things head on? By applying God’s word and by letting Him fight our battles. We can only overcome what we face. Being a doer of God’s word and living it out actively is not always easy, but it always works.
David must have realized that running away is not the right answer because he later said in Psalm 55:16 “As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me.” (NIV) Meaning, he decided to call on the one who controls every situation and trusted God take care of it.
God never wants you to run away in defeat because you were born to be victorious.
Don’t let your problem run you off! Face it, overcome it and move on!
