Do you understand the importance of community? As Christians we are called the Body of Christ, but most people don’t understand what that really means? The term “Body of Christ” indicates that we are a unified group of believers with a common history (i.e. Christ’s death, burial and resurrection) functioning to achieve a common goal (i.e. The Great Commission). If there has ever been a time for us to live out the concept of community, now is truly that time.
When we come back to the basics of Christianity we will realize that the church has only been effective when we’ve learned to function as one. It is only when we allow division into our community that we become ineffective. The secular world has long observed what a divided church is incapable of doing and they have found humor in our failures. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of being the punchline of someone else’s jokes. Let’s restore the fear of the Lord in our society, again.
According to Acts 2:43-45, “Everyone around was in awe—all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person's need was met.” (MSG)
This community of believers becomes a force for good in the world marked by a dynamic working of the Holy Spirit’s power. We have an obligation to the world to give them an encounter with the God of power because His power working through our faith community is the only thing that can solve the world’s problems. Together we are God’s Dream Team so let’s work together and see God’s plan unfold on the earth.
