When Peter saw Jesus walk on water he couldn’t help himself but wanted to do the same right away. Jesus, in our lives always encourages us to step up and step out into things we have never done before, things that might even be wildly impossible for us to do. While Peter decided to step out of the boat, we must remember there were other disciples who preferred staying inside the boat. Peter sought to do what Jesus was doing even if it was impossible for him. It could have been a spur of the moment thing for Peter, yet Jesus didn’t say no when Peter asked.
In our hearts we all desire to do things like Jesus did- see healing, provisions and deliverance and then when God shows up walking on water we want to do it too but we’d rather be sitting in the boat than take the trouble of stepping out. Like the other disciples in the boat, we have unconsciously marked the things God can do and the things man can do while completely foregoing the things that God wills to do through man. So when God’s action spurs us to step out we begin contemplating on doing that task by ourselves and keep sitting in the boat knowing that it is impossible for man and forgetting that it is possible for God. If you’re worried you’ll fail, look what Jesus did when Peter began sinking, “Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him.” There was not a single iota of delay, His saving was immediate!
Jesus said - “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. John 14:12 (NLT)
God is doing amazing feats through people who are like Peter while the rest of us sit and watch from the boat. Let’s step up and step out so we can go home and tell the people, “I walked on water with Jesus!”
