I have a great appreciation for life, and over the past few years I have grown a deeper gratefulness for each day I am allowed to wake up and experience. Recently I began to ask myself the question “What if I die today/tonight”? I’m not trying to go anywhere yet, but it most certainly has pushed me into “self-check mode”. I’ve been searching my heart and walk with Christ and asked the Lord to show me “me” and the areas in my life that need change/deliverance. I want to be ready when my time comes and be able to enter into rest with Christ.
Hebrews 9:27 states “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” (NKJV) God will judge our life. That means how we live and die matters. Salvation through Christ is the only way to avoid a second death in hell. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (NKJV) Jesus came to give you ever lasting life, but you must repent of your sins, seek forgiveness and accept Christ.
If you are saved already, I want to encourage you to do a “self-check”. What areas of your live are not pleasing to God and need deliverance? 1 Peter 4:18 “And also, "If the righteous are barely saved, what will happen to godless sinners?" (NLT) That means even as God’s righteous people we can’t become comfortable with whom we are. We have to strive daily to become more like Christ and die to self.
So I ask, “What if you die today”?
