There are many times in life that we find ourselves in situations or circumstances in which we cannot fathom why or how we got there. We sit back and think of all the things we have done, contemplating what in the world did we do wrong to end up in such calamity. But the story of Daniel reminds us that there are times we wind up in harsh situations due to the actions of others, while we ourselves have been honest and faithful.
The story of Daniel is a reminder to us as believers that we can find ourselves in rough situations because of the words and actions of others. Daniel was a devout man of God who was living a faithful and righteous life unto God, and rendering a great service unto the king that he served. King Darius had appointed Daniel as one of the governors of the land, and because of Daniel’s heart for God, his service to the King was done in an excellent manner. So much so that the Bible says he distinguished himself above the governor’s and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. (Daniel 6:3a) Daniel lived and walked in a spirit of excellence because of his reverence for God, but it was this reverence that attracted trouble to Daniel.
As quiet as it is kept and as much as we don’t want to admit it; our faithfulness to God can attract the wrong kind of attention. Like Daniel, when we take a stance for God and choose to live godly, it can attract the attention of those who do not want to see you succeed or worse; those who are determined to cause your downfall. They can seemingly remain consistent at attacking you and trying to throw you in the proverbial lions den of life.
But just as they are eager and persistent in attacking you, God is eager and faithful to deliver you. No matter how hard or relentless the attack, when you are truly faithful to God He will come to your rescue and deliver you right in the face of your enemies.
