There are many people who pride themselves on being knowledgeable in many areas of life. They spend years in school attaining degrees, being mentored by others or maybe just taking the culmination of their life experiences and using all of those things as a measure of knowledge and intelligence. But the question remains is all that we attain by worldly standards the best knowledge or wisdom or is there yet a better way?
In our text today we are being reminded of the differences between demonic and godly wisdom, and how we can tell the difference between the two. In this day and age it is vital to be able to discern the type of wisdom that is being shared by individuals we encounter. It’s very important that we watch who we let speak into our lives because some people have the ability to feed us well dressed tainted pieces of wisdom that we will easily digest because on the onset it appears good, but may wind up causing us great distress. However, we can avoid dealing with the fallout of receiving this type of tainted wisdom by being able to easily identify what right and good wisdom looks like.
1. Godly wisdom is pure; it will be free from anything ungodly or inappropriate. It will not contain that which appeases your flesh, but will uphold the standard of walking righteously before God.
2. Godly wisdom is peaceable and gentle; it does not cause strife, division or quarrels amongst people. Even in the face of unfair situations it promotes peace at all costs. It teaches that responding in a calm/proper demeanor is always the right way to go.
3. Godly wisdom is willing to yield; it teaches that submission to God and proper authorities is not a sign of weakness. Many times people considering giving authority over to others makes them weak but Godly wisdom teaches surrendering to His leadership is vital to growth and living.
4. Godly wisdom is full of mercy, good fruit, without partiality or hypocrisy; Godly wisdom manifest in the good works, character and behavior.
If the wisdom being shared with you doesn't promote any of these things, then you’re receiving the wrong type of wisdom.
